The new building consists of the Harris Mercantile, Dixon Saloon, the Cheap Battle for Life Cash Store (that was the original name) and the Barber Shop. The Harris Mercantile sold everything from groceries and hardware to clothes and hosiery. The proprietor of the Dixon Saloon was Mr. John Irons. Mr. Fred Johnson owned and operated the barber shop. At the barber shop, you could get a shave and a trim, along with dental work. Mr. Johnson also operated a "complete and understanding mortuary"-- in case the shave didn't work out as planned. |
The 2015 Grand Opening of the Saloon was a huge success! Many enjoyed the music provided by Rodney Sauer on the piano and accordian. It made the saloon seem very lively. A few poker games took place along with ice cream making, dancing, and dinner. Later, everyone enjoyed a silent movie. A few young helpers helped concoct sarsaparilla. With a little added sugar, it was quite tasty. Saloon Days might become an annual event, so if you missed it, don't be worried. There could be more to come!
